CW3E Welcomes Charlotte Piazza

January 2, 2026

Charlotte Piazza joined CW3E as a Lab Assistant in November of 2025. She previously worked as an undergraduate research assistant with the CW3E Field Team since April of 2023. She earned a BS in Aerospace Engineering with Specialization in Astrodynamics and Space Applications from UC San Diego in June of 2025.

As an undergraduate research assistant with the field team Charlotte conducted sensor calibration and repair as well as station maintenance for the Scripps Hydroclimate Network (HCN). With the support of Douglas Alden and Hart Wanetick, she also designed, tested and deployed an upgraded telemetry system for HCN that allowed for backfilling data during cell outages and reduced power consumption. She also worked on analysis and quality control of the HCN historical data stretching back to 2004.

As a staff Lab Assistant, Charlotte will continue to support HCN as well as other Field Team installations and data collection efforts. She looks forward to learning new skills and solving engineering challenges with the Field Team.
