CW3E Welcomes Dr. Mari Webb
January 12, 2026
Mari joined CW3E in January 2026 as a Postdoctoral Scholar after completing her Ph.D. in Hydrology at the University of Nevada, Reno, under Dr. Christine Albano. Her Ph.D. research examined flooding driven by atmospheric rivers, with a focus on the role of antecedent soil moisture conditions. She used large climatic, hydrologic, and socioeconomic data sets to statistically characterize flooding patterns and impacts in the western U.S. and central Chile. Prior to her graduate studies, Mari earned a B.A. in Geography and Environmental Earth Sciences at Dartmouth College.
At CW3E, Mari’s postdoctoral research will explore the role of soil moisture in watershed response to precipitation inputs across timescales. Her work will investigate how soil moisture conditions are represented in hydrologic models and quantify how uncertainty in these conditions propagates into forecasts. She will also leverage the CW3E monitoring network to expand the study of antecedent soil moisture conditions across regions and hazards, accounting for interactions with atmospheric river families, other climate extremes, and antecedent anthropogenic conditions such as reservoir storage levels.
