Site Description
SLU Smoil has 1 tripod, 1 standalone tipping bucket [distance/direction from tripod?] and 2 soil pits [distance from each other and distance/direction from tripod?]. The station sits on a flat(ish) area atop a densely grassy hill near Penon Peak in the Santa Lucia Conservancy: off Robinson Canyon Rd and Penon Peak Trail (paved road), ~50ft down an unpaved access road that goes right in front of the hill & up another dirt path to our station which is a about a 3 minute walk up (depending on how much you carry). We have confirmation we can drive our vehicle on these unpaved roads to park right at the base of the hill (A.Wolman 4/17/25). There are 2 other weather stations on nearby hills just higher up than ours.
The conservancy has two gates on the property, one at the beginning of Penon Pk Rd which has a security camera & call system to buzz you in and one steel gate with combo locks up Penon Pk Rd a bit.
