The site is RAD-Met and SurfaceMet are installed at two locations on the south side of Seven Oaks Dam.

RAD-Met

  • The RAD-Met is located at the top of the south side of the dam on a gravel surface area to the north of an asphalt parking area.
  • AC power is provided from an outlet in an adjacent building ( photo ). An extension cord runs from the enclosure to the building and is covered with gravel ( photo ).  The cord enters the building through a small square port on the north side.
  • All equipment has been placed on the ground surface on a variety of stand and tripods.
  • The RAD-Met enclosure is made of 304 stainless steel.  It is mounted on a stand ( photo ) fabricated from stainless steel unistrut ( photo ).  The stand sits on ground surface and is attached to an existing guardrail with lag bolts ( photo ). The enclosure is covered by a wood box with a solar powered fan in the top ( photo ) to minimize solar heat gain. The enclosure is oriented so the wood box is on the south side ( photo ).
  • The cell antenna is attached to a pole closer to the top of dam providing a clear line of site to the valley.  Two LMR-400 RF cables run from the antenna back to the enclosure along the ground and are buried under a few inches of gravel .
  • The 900 MHz RF antenna is attached to one of the enclosure stand legs. The GPS antenna is mounted to the top of a piece of unistrut between enclosure stand legs ( photo ).
  • The MRR is mounted on METEK's aluminum tripod with a 45 lb weight lifting plate attached to each leg ( photo ). The data/power cable is covered in split loom, runs along the ground, and is buried with a few inches of gravel ( photo ) . The MRR heater is not in use as this site does not see freezing temperatures.
  • The disdrometer is mounted on a galvanized steel stand ( photo ) that is mounted on a flat triangle of unistrut with a 25 lb barbell attached to each corner of the triangle. The power supply for the disdrometer is located in a stainless steel enclosure mounted to the back of the RAD-Met enclosure ( photo ). The power supply is under the plate to which the terminal strip is attached ( photo ). The data/power cable runs through split loom and is buried under a few inches of gravel ( photo ).

SurfaceMet

  • The Campbell Scientific SurfaceMet is mounted on a tripod several hundred yards east of the RAD-Met ( photo ).
  • The tipping bucket is mounted on a 1 ½ in. sch40 galvanized steel pipe ( photo ) with concrete footing. The data cable to the SurfaceMet runs through flexible aluminum conduit and is buried a few inches below the ground surface.
  • Data is telemetered to the RAD-Met using 900 MHz radio modems.
