Back at SYR, we all met Nick Clavel of County Parks, very dapper and very excited about gauging
Told us about beaver dams and said he’d let us know when they happen and when they take them down (we can help!)
Said buh-bye to Wes after some more group chit-chat
Nick helped us throw County boat in back of long-bed
Went to look for paddles while we loaded the boat
We ended up using single paddle board oar cause he took awhile, but eventually came back w PVC etc. and called them “really nice sticks”
Actually quite helpful for wedging boat in place
Moved toolbox and other gear using boat
Captain Levi
Sierra + Levi stood guard of boat, etc. while FRs grabbed everyone lunch from Tacos Pico Rico
Began installing staff plate
Began scooting around in boat to find good installation spot for stilling well
Decided sandy bottom was WAY too soft for rebar and pole installation
Time for a trip to Yuba City for 7-ft  fence post (plus and extra for LDM)
Finished installing staff plate just around time Ava + Sierra returned from hardware store
Honestly really bomber install, v proud
Got in new fence post (from boat!!) for stilling well
Secured w a few screws before team decided to wrap up and scoot out
Pyrocumulus clouds + word from homebase alerted us to fire started in Colfax
River Fire headed toward Grass Valley, where all our belongings were
Firefighters did good work
Many sectors of Nevada County being evacuated
Decided it was too late in evening for us to move hotels (not even helpful to evacuees at that point)
