HOW is located on private property approximately 10 miles north of Hayden, CO. It is situated in an open area to the north of a small creek and the surrounding vegetation is primarily sage brush and grasses. The soil is hard packed and clay-rich with shrink-swell cracks. The area is a former pasture but it no longer grazed, although it is a corridor through which elk regularly migrate.
